On February 14, 2023, World Congenital Heart Disease Day, the fundraising and awareness campaign #donauncuore officially launched, supported by the association Bambini Cardiopatici nel Mondo, led by Professor Alessandro Frigiola, in collaboration with Vicario Cinque to give hope of life to children with congenital heart disease.
Infantile congenital heart disease represents about 40% of all neonatal malformations, with an incidence of approximately 8-10 infants per 1000. The impact of these diseases on the quality of life of children can be significantly reduced by specialized teams.
Unfortunately, there are many shortcomings in the healthcare systems of various countries, especially those in developing countries, and the most worrying aspect is the lack of human resources such as doctors and nurses, with a greater focus on the fields of cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology. Thanks to the funds raised in this crowdfunding campaign, a team of doctors, specialists, and 3D designers will graphically reproduce the model of a heart affected by a particular heart disease, thus creating the prototype on which the team will then intervene and operate. Each organ is able to withstand multiple operations and interventions thanks to innovative molding materials that allow for several actions to be repeated before complete wear and consequent replacement, allowing multiple doctors to train on the same prototype to prepare for intervention in the field.
50 hearts (worth €300 each) will be reproduced using cutting-edge technologies.
#donauncuore is an invitation to achieve something great through a small contribution, in order to make a difference and reduce the rate of infant mortality caused by congenital heart disease, not only in Italy but worldwide.
Anyone can join the fundraising campaign starting from a minimum amount of €5. Every contribution is important and will make a difference!
A small sum for a BIG result.
